Psychosocial recovery coaching is capacity-building support for people living with psychosocial disability or mental health-related support needs.
It focuses on helping you understand your goals, build confidence and skills, navigate services, strengthen supports and take meaningful steps towards the life you want to live.
At MHRC, recovery coaching is person-centred, strengths-based, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming. We work at your pace and respect that recovery looks different for every person.
MHRC supports adults who would benefit from psychosocial recovery coaching, particularly people who have an NDIS plan with funding for Recovery Coach supports or relevant Capacity Building supports.
You may be self-managed, plan-managed or agency-managed depending on the service and current arrangements.
If you are unsure whether your funding can be used, get in touch and we can discuss your circumstances before you commit.
Most MHRC recovery coaching services are designed for NDIS participants with relevant funding.
However, some educational resources, self-paced programs and wellbeing tools may be available privately or online.
If you do not have an NDIS plan, are awaiting access, or are unsure what supports you can use, contact MHRC to discuss the options available to you.
A recovery coach can support you with areas such as:
Recovery coaching is collaborative. You remain in control of your goals, choices and next steps.
The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other.
We will discuss what is important to you, the supports you currently have, what you would like help with, your communication preferences and how you would like sessions to work.
There is no expectation that you need to share everything straight away. You can take your time, ask questions, bring a support person or let us know if you need information explained differently.
MHRC may offer sessions by video call, phone and, where available and appropriate, in person.
The best format depends on your location, preferences, support needs and current service availability.
Online appointments can be a flexible option if travelling, crowded spaces, anxiety, fatigue or health needs make in-person sessions difficult.
MHRC is based in Sydney, New South Wales, and can support participants through online and phone-based appointments more broadly where appropriate.
Availability for face-to-face services may vary by location.
Contact us with your suburb or preferred appointment format so we can confirm what is currently available.
Yes. Your goals guide the work we do together.
They might relate to confidence, identity, emotional wellbeing, routines, relationships, housing, education, employment, community participation, managing appointments or understanding your NDIS plan.
Goals can change over time. Recovery coaching should be flexible enough to respond to what matters most to you now.
Yes. MHRC aims to provide support that recognises the impact of trauma, prioritises emotional and practical safety, promotes choice and collaboration, and avoids judgement.
MHRC also uses a neuro-affirming approach. This means we respect neurodiversity and work with your communication style, sensory needs, energy levels, strengths and preferences rather than expecting you to fit a one-size-fits-all model.
Roots to Rise is MHRC’s structured recovery-focused program.
It is designed to help participants explore foundations of safety, self-understanding, regulation, connection, identity, purpose, empowerment, goals and sustainable recovery.
The program is self-paced and includes optional coach support, interactive activities and downloadable resources.
It is intended to complement individual recovery work, not replace clinical or emergency mental health care.
The Nervous System Reset is an educational wellbeing resource that explores nervous system states, grounding, breathwork, emotional regulation, boundaries, co-regulation, self-compassion and practical coping tools.
It includes guided activities and resources to help people notice what supports them in different states of stress or overwhelm.
It is not therapy, diagnosis or crisis intervention.
No. Recovery coaching is not psychotherapy, psychology, counselling, medical treatment or crisis care.
A recovery coach does not diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication or provide emergency intervention.
